Art Workshops,  Art Appreciation and Design Tours -- a unique Travel Safari in Britain

SKILL AREAS

The activities are really about understanding the magnificent achievements in architecture, art and design all around us. Understanding techniques and materials will help you do this but will also provide you with a basis for your own art, design, craft and architectural work in a traditional or contemporary style ---and have fun at the same time!

Each one week programme involves instruction in two skill areas chosen from the five main art / design activities on offer. An extra two skills can be developed during a second week's stay, or guests may concentrate on one skill and arrange an extension programme if they wish to to develop a particular interest.

If you had no thoughts of doing such work, time spent with us could change your life.

There are five main skill areas:-

CASTING METALS FOR SCULPTURE AND JEWELLERY

FORGEWORK FOR FURNITURE AND DESIGN

AN INTRODUCTION TO CARVING IN WOOD AND STONE

CLAY MODELLING AND MOULD MAKING

PAINTING

After a full day, guests reluctantly tear themselves away from their work and join us at the inns for food, conversation and entertainment with our musicians. The days are vigorous but there is always energy for sociable evenings.

Apart from the main options, there are associate design and craft activities -- from design drawing and practice, through to the traditional dry stone wall building.

DRY STONE WALL BUILDING CAN BE CHOSEN AS A MAIN SKILL AREA IN ITSELF
---Instruction is by experienced local farmers/craftsmen and takes place on site in historical farm locations.

Apart from these workshop/architectural tours options, guests can combine their activities with elements of the activity based course (2 or 4 activities in total).

A sample one week outline itinerary might be---travel safari/tour/visit, - one day - activity instruction, - two days - travel safari/tour/visit, - one day - activity instruction, - two days - travel safari/tour/visit, - one day.

The programme includes guided, instructional visits to major sites of interest and 'safaris' along byways tourists would never find. This way, guests waste no time in travel arrangements and mistakes. More than this, guests benefit from our vast experience of the landscape, history and current events in Great Britain.

After a full day, guests reluctantly tear themselves away and join us at the inns for food, conversation and entertainment with our musicians. The days are vigorous but there is always energy for sociable evenings.

Also included in the programme is an end of week major dinner at Manchester's leading jazz bar and restaurant.

As time is valuable when you are travelling, our programme eliminates mistakes by providing transport between the places of interest.

We have most sporting and cultural activities in the region and participation or tickets for events can easily be arranged.
We provide useful alternative travel and events information for guests on a wider trip.

We also provide transport to and from Manchester Airport--an airport with regular flights to U.S. and European cities
( Check our Airlines links page for details ).

The early Summer and Autumn sessions are most recommended as travel costs are lower and historical sites less busy.
